Typing Test — Free Online Typing Speed Test & WPM Check

Welcome to TypingTestHN (Typing Test HN), a free typing test and practice platform built by typists, for typists. Take a typing test and measure your words per minute (WPM) and accuracy in 60 seconds, prepare for government and private-sector typing exams, and build lasting touch-typing skills — no signup required. Over one million users have improved their typing speed with our typing tests, lessons, and analytics.

How We Measure Your Typing Speed

TypingTestHN calculates WPM using the international standard: one "word" equals five keystrokes, including spaces and punctuation. Your gross WPM is the total keystrokes divided by five, then divided by the elapsed minutes. Your net WPM subtracts uncorrected errors, because speed without accuracy is meaningless in real work. This is the same scoring convention used by US court-reporting schools, Indian government typing examinations (SSC, CPCT, Railway), and data-entry employers worldwide. We publish our full scoring formula, error-handling rules, and timing methodology openly so you can trust every result.

Accuracy is calculated as the percentage of correct keystrokes out of total keystrokes. A result below 95% accuracy is flagged, because most employers and exam boards require at least 90–95% accuracy regardless of raw speed. Our tests include backspace-enabled and backspace-disabled modes, matching the exact conditions of competitive exams like the SSC CGL and CPCT typing tests in India.

Typing Speed Benchmarks

Based on aggregated results from over one million tests on our platform, here is how typing speeds compare across skill levels:

Skill TierWPM RangeTypical Profile
Beginner0–20 WPMNew typists, hunt-and-peck method
Average20–40 WPMCasual computer users, most adults
Professional40–70 WPMOffice workers, data-entry staff, students
Expert70–100 WPMTranscriptionists, court reporters, programmers
World Class100+ WPMCompetitive typists, professional stenographers

The global average typing speed is approximately 40 WPM. For employment, most data-entry and administrative roles require 45–60 WPM with 95%+ accuracy. Indian government exams such as SSC and CPCT typically require 30–35 WPM in English or 25–30 WPM in Hindi (Krutidev or Mangal font).
